About the Position

To strengthen our Information Security team, we are looking for IT Security Engineer to assist in this extremellty important task of keeping MDPI secure our infrastructure and assist on the strengthen our vulnerability assessment/analysis of our Linux based systems,. The position of System and Security Engineer is a full-time and permanent position based in either office in Basel, Switzerland or Belgrade, Serbia or Krakow Poland.

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Manage and support security configurations and hardening of Linux-based systems in accordance with best practices.
• Experience with security assessments and penetration testing, including vulnerability identification and remediation strategies.
• Monitor security alerts and incidents, escalating as necessary and ensuring timely resolution.
• Maintaining and optimizing IT, network security & backup systems based on service requirements
• Collaborating with development teams in order to optimize system implementation according to service requirements.
• Working knowledge of AWS security tools and services.
• Provide support and solution to IT users for security issues (L2/L3 tier)
• Maintain, evaluate and optimize IT and network security & backup systems
• Good to have:
• Basic knowledge on security measures for Microsoft 365 (M365) services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and related platforms.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field (or 2 years - equivalent practical experience).
• Basic to knowledge of Linux operating systems and experience with Bash scripting.
• Basic understanding of Microsoft 365 services, including Entra, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Teams.
• Familiarity with security concepts and principles, such as access control, encryption, and vulnerability management.
• Able to work independently and proactively
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Fundamentals, CompTIA Security+) are a plus.
